Palamós is a fishing port and a market town in one, with a working harbour, the famous red prawns and beaches on both sides. It is one of the few towns on this coast that is fully alive all year.

Palamós and Sant Joan de Palamós form one town of about 19,000 people. It has the only hospital in the Baix Empordà, a daily market, two marinas and a fishing fleet that still lands its catch at the auction every afternoon. Life here does not depend on the summer.
That makes it a practical choice for people who want to live here permanently or spend long periods. The sandy beach of La Fosca and the coves of Castell and s'Alguer are a few minutes from the centre, and Sant Antoni de Calonge, where our office is, is next door. We can also look after the house while you are away.
The market ranges from apartments in the centre and near the port to houses in the residential areas around the town and villas near La Fosca and the coves. Older town houses in the centre come up from time to time.

Palamós was founded by King Pere el Gran in 1279 as a royal port, and the charter that created it also set up a weekly Tuesday market, which still runs. A few years later, in 1285, the admiral Roger de Llúria defeated a French fleet just off the Formigues islets.
Fishing has defined the town ever since. The red prawn of Palamós has its own quality mark, and the Museu de la Pesca, in an old warehouse on the port, tells the story of the fleet. Above Castell beach lies an Iberian settlement from the sixth century before Christ, protected as a national heritage site. In 2026 the municipality took the name Palamós i Sant Joan.
Palamós has a compact centre and several distinct areas around it. These are the ones we sell in most often.
La Fosca
A beach and neighbourhood between the port and the cove of s'Alguer, with a large rock in the middle of the sand and the ruins of the castle of Sant Esteve de Mar at one end. Quiet out of season.
Sant Joan
The old village of Vila-romà, now joined to Palamós as one town, with a compact core around its church and newer streets along the Girona road.
Mas Guardià

Come and see it with someone who lives here. We will show you the parts of Palamós that suit what you are after, and say so when something does not.
