Calonge is a working Catalan village four kilometres inland, with a castle in the middle and the beaches of Sant Antoni a short drive away. Most of its houses stand in the green hills between the two.

Calonge and Sant Antoni de Calonge are one municipality of about 12,300 people, and they work as a pair. The village sits inland at the foot of the Gavarres, with its square, its church and its shops open all year. Sant Antoni is the coastal half, about three kilometres east, where the beach and the promenade are.
That makes Calonge one of the easier places on this coast to live outside the summer. The village has its own Thursday market and a life that does not depend on visitors, and the sea is close enough that you never feel cut off from it. Our office is in Sant Antoni, so looking after a house here is part of our everyday round.
What comes up for sale is mostly detached houses with gardens in the urbanisations on the slopes, some with views over the bay of Palamós, plus village houses in the old centre that often need work. Our current listings show the range.

The castle in the centre of Calonge goes back to the eleventh and thirteenth centuries and was held for generations by the Cruïlles family. At the end of the nineteenth century it was sold to local people and became a casino, a theatre, the town hall and at one time a cinema. Today it is publicly owned and houses the archaeological museum and the historical archive, and its courtyard hosts a summer music festival.
Around it the medieval street plan survives, with the Plaça Major at its heart. The church of Sant Martí, built between 1763 and 1772 on top of an older Romanesque church, is one of the largest in the diocese of Girona. In the late eighteenth century cork-stopper workshops arrived and changed the local economy, which is why the village grew beyond its walls.
The urbanisations around Calonge differ in how steep they are, how far from the village and how much shade the pines give. These are the ones we sell in most.
Mas Pere
One of the inland urbanisations of the municipality, on the wooded slopes above the village. Detached houses on their own plots, in a quiet setting.
Rio de Oro
A residential development within Calonge, made up of private houses with gardens rather than apartment blocks.
Mas Ambrós
An inland urbanisation between Calonge and Sant Antoni, so both the village and the coast are a short drive away.
Vizcondado de Cabanyes
An urbanisation in the Cabanyes valley, west of the village. More rural than the others, with larger plots and the hills behind.
Mas Pallí
Between Calonge and Platja d'Aro, within walking distance of the village centre. A good choice for people who want shops without needing the car for everything.

Come and see it with someone who lives here. We will show you the parts of Calonge that suit what you are after, and say so when something does not.
