Property for sale in S'Agaró
S'Agaró is a garden city on a headland, planned in the 1920s, with houses set among pines and gardens above the sea. It is small, discreet and unlike anywhere else on this coast.

What buying in S'Agaró is really like
About 1,700 people live in S'Agaró, which belongs to the same municipality as Platja d'Aro and Castell d'Aro. It lies on the headland between the beach of Sant Pol and the cove of Sa Conca, and a coastal path, protected as a heritage asset since 1995, links the two along the rocks.
Buyers come here for the setting and the calm: no high-rise, no busy centre, and houses that were designed as a whole rather than one at a time. Platja d'Aro and Sant Feliu de Guíxols are close for everything else. Owners here tend to want discretion, and we look after houses in S'Agaró with that in mind.
Properties come up rarely. They range from the original 1920s and 1930s houses in S'Agaró Vell to newer villas and apartments near Sant Pol beach, and many have gardens that have had a century to grow.

Designed as a whole
In 1916 the industrialist Josep Ensesa i Pujadas bought land on this headland. From 1924 his son Josep Ensesa i Gubert and the architect Rafael Masó turned it into a garden city in the noucentista style: around twenty houses, plus the stairs, squares, pergolas and viewpoints that hold them together.
In 1932 the Hostal de la Gavina opened, and it gave S'Agaró its reputation far beyond Catalonia. In 1940 the architect Francesc Folguera added the church of Nostra Senyora de l'Esperança, where a music festival is held every summer.
Areas in and around S'Agaró
S'Agaró is small, but the two areas in it are very different places to own a house.
S'Agaró Vell
The original garden city, from Sant Pol beach to the viewpoint square. Most of the noucentista houses are here, along with the Hostal de la Gavina.
Sant Pol
The bay and beach next to S'Agaró, which belong to Sant Feliu de Guíxols. More apartments and newer houses, and a sandy beach for everyday swimming.
What you actually need to know
- Girona airport
- About 33 km by road, roughly half an hour, the same as Platja d'Aro next door. The most useful airport for anyone coming regularly.
- Barcelona airport
- About 118 km, around an hour and twenty-five minutes on the AP-7 outside August.
- The coastal path
- The camí de ronda runs around the headland from Sant Pol to Sa Conca, one of the best-known stretches of it.
- Shops and services
- S'Agaró itself is residential. Platja d'Aro and Sant Feliu de Guíxols are a few minutes away.
- Hospital
- The Hospital de Palamós, which serves the whole Baix Empordà, is the nearest hospital.
- Old houses
- Many houses here are close to a hundred years old. Their gardens, roofs and walls need more regular attention than a new villa.
